Life moves through four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Life itself and all living things on this planet move through these four seasons.
Ecclesiastes 3, verses 1-8, read in this way:
“For everything its season, and for every activity under heaven its time:
A time to be born and a time to die
A time to plant and a time to uproot
A time to kill and a time to heal
A time to pull down and a time to build up
A time to weep and a time to laugh
A time for mourning and a time for dancing
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them
A time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing
A time to seek and a time to lose
A time to keep and a time to throw away
A time to tear and a time to mend
A time for silence and a time for speech
A time to love and a time to hate
A time for war and a time for peace.”
There is a season.
You are invited to journey into the mirror of seasons. Engage, reflect, and find your own connection to each season.
It does not matter what time of year it is – these reflections can take you into yourself as a season. It does not matter what stage you are in your life, each season has an invitation for you.
Each stands alone. Each invites you to journey into the mirror of self-reflection to deepen your self-acceptance and encourage your self-expression.

Soltices and equinoxes sit in the center of the season wheel, catalyzing the cycles of death, life, rebirth, change, and movement. Grandmother Earth’s internal, introspective movement moves counterclockwise to produce the seasons of fertility and abundance of all forms of all things. Take a moment to breathe the energy of this solstice deep into every cell of your being, allowing the death of the that which no longer serves you, so that there is room for the seeds of new life to sprout and flower.
Each single wheel teaches us about an aspect of our world, much like a single ingredient in a recipe provides one flavor. When we start overlaying wheels, the depth of these teachings are revealed in the interconnections we explore. This exploration will move the teachings into body knowing. Accessing our body knowing leads us to felt wisdom.
In the last month, we have learned about the Elements, Seasons and the Directions and their “Give-away”. Take some time to explore these interconnections:
How is the south, the color of red, the season of spring, the element of water, and trust and innocence inter-related?
For the west: Explore the inter-connections of black, winter, the earth, and intuition and introspection.
For the north: white, autumn, air or wind, and wisdom and logic.
For the east: yellow, summer, fire, illumination and enlightenment.
Please feel free to share what you came up with so we may all learn from each other and deepen our own perspectives.
The world in which we live is defined by the powers of four DIRECTIONS and stabilized by four basic ELEMENTS. Our lifestyle is determined by the four SEASONS and our companions on this earth consist of four groupings or what the Sweet Medicine SunDance Teachings call the four WORLDS. Within us, these elements, seasons and worlds are reflected in our heart, body, mind, spirit and soul. Both inside and outside of us humans the POWERS OF THE FOUR DIRECTIONS manifest their beauty and power.
Each of the directions, elements, seasons and worlds sit in a particular direction on the Medicine Wheel due to the essence of its energy and give away of beauty.
