Toushilahey are all our spirit selves and personalities from every lifetime Since Always and For Always. Our task is to gain freedom from the cycles of reincarnation and resurrect into enlightenment.
In the West, we hold with the physical body with intimacy. Now, this does not mean to hold as in hold on tight. It is holding in the sense of transforming energy through stabilization and for utilization. Think of it as an electrical cord. The body is the structure through which electrical energy moves like a conduit, and provides the transformed energy to turn a fan, or work a toaster, or move the body parts.

When we pick up the first light arrow of Self-Awareness, the dark arrow of attachments is broken. Becoming self-aware destroys ignorance. And our developing concept of self helps us to discern what is a true reality need and what is not.
By choosing self-awareness from our quiver, the gift of the 1st Rainbow Arrow is Illumination. Grandfather Sun, the first power of the Twenty Count, shines down on us and we feel the warmth and light of his rays throughout our whole being. We accept the Light as the source of our knowledge, illumination and enlightenment. We lighten up with the smile of the sun’s rays. Light is our focus.
When we allow our spirits to expand, when we soar with the eagle, we can catch those insights which illuminate our life. When we compound the illuminations, we can achieve enlightenment.
Life is a CHOICE. Choosing the Light Arrows breaks the Dark Arrows. Persist in this practice and one day you will discover that the Universe has placed the Rainbow Arrows in your quiver in the place of the Dark Arrows as a gift from the Universe. A perfect balance of the female and male energies in the light brings to us the Rainbow Arrows of illumination and enlightenment; introspection and intuition; trust, innocence and perfection; balanced alignment with wisdom; open heart to heart communication; impeccability as one’s self-worth and the actualization of our Sacred Dream.
Have goals, but never focus on them, for the Warrior’s focus is on the journey, which becomes the personal vision quest towards enlightenment. ~ SwiftDeer
Enlightenment is remembering
how to tune ourselves as an instrument
into a harmonic resonance with the song of the Universe.
Today, we begin our Twenty Count Tuesday series with the first Power, Grandfather Sun, who sings his Song of Illumination and Enlightenment from his sitting place in the East of this Great Medicine Wheel.
Here are a few facts that express the power of the Sun…
- The Sun holds the solar system together; pours life-giving light, heat, and energy on Earth; and generates space weather.
- The visible part of the Sun is about 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit (5,500 degrees Celsius), while temperatures in the core reach more than 27 million F (15 million C), driven by nuclear reactions.
- Each second, more than four million tons of matter are converted into energy within the Sun’s core, producing neutrinos and solar radiation.
- The Sun has enough nuclear fuel to stay much as it is for another 5 billion years.
- According to NASA, one would need to explode 100 billion tons of dynamite every second to match the energy produced by the Sun.
These facts are amazing, and quite frankly, a little hard to wrap your brain around.
I invite you to share your experience and relationship to this first Power of the Universe.
What is YOUR body knowing of the sun and how does this energy dance with YOU?
What does the Sun teach you about Illumination and Enlightenment?
You are about to embark on a journey into the world of Wheels and Keys. If you are a linear thinker, you will need to adjust your thinking process and engage in the creative venture of circular thinking. Wheels are a way to record and encode knowledge that is multi-layered and comprehensive. They are cognitive maps, tools that enhance understanding. When we apply the Wheels and Keys in our own personal growth and change work, they are like weapons to conquer the enemy within. Some of them are like roadmaps explaining how to best maneuver through your everyday reality. Some of them are blueprints outlining the greater picture of our spiritual reality. Knowledge contained within the Wheels are Keys to enlightenment.
You will be exposed to new languaging and concepts. Familiar words will take on new meanings. New words are created to illuminate assumptions and mysteries. Some of the ancient magickal words when translated into English would take a sentence or paragraph to describe. They are written as they sound and spelled to contain the original magick within their letters.
The journey into the world of Wheels and Keys is fueled by legend. The knowledge they contain has been tested for validity and so we say that it has been so “since always”. Brought to us through the Twisted Hairs, the Sweet Medicine SunDance Teachings are part of an oral tradition that contains the legends of the very beginning of time. You are not asked to believe these legends. You are simply invited to allow the stories to touch your heart, inspire your spirit and let your mind and body test them for yourself to see if the knowledge they contain works for you in your life.
The concept of the LAW OF ALL ENERGY IN MOVEMENT will challenge you. Do not try to figure it out! Let it be a Key that spins your mind into new places and new ways of understanding.
You are invited to study and learn these Wheels and Keys, work with them and apply them in as many contexts as you can until they begin to dance with you. These Wheels and Keys are alive and will breathe through you, awakening your memory of what it is to walk on this Earth in balance and harmony.
For many ancient peoples, hair symbolizes knowledge. “Twisted Hairs” refers to those who take knowledge from all sources and weave it together to formulate what is true and valid for themselves. True knowledge is self-knowledge, tested, felt and integrated into a way of life that always leads to a change in one’s behavior and an effectual change in one’s substance health.
Thousands of years ago, as now, medicine women and men, shamans, magicians and sorcerers from varying tribes traveled beyond their tribal boundaries to seek knowledge from every direction of the Wheel of Life. In Turtle Island (North, South and Central America, originally including what is now Australia and New Zealand), these men and women of knowledge began to meet each other.
As early as 1250 B.C., medicine men and women gathered together to form a Secret Society or Magickal Lodge called the Rattlesnake School. In 1224 A.D., they met with other shamans, sorcerers, magicians and wizards of the Eight Great Powers. Then in 1250 A.D., the Twisted Hairs of Turtle Island formed a Metis Medicine Societies Council of Elders. “Metis” refers to the fact that they represented many and varied tribes. They were, therefore, “of mixed blood”. A unanimous agreement for membership to the Metis Medicine Societies Council of Elders and a Circle of Law was established to facilitate the sharing of their combined knowledge with anyone whose primary reason for choosing a physical body was to become enlightened. Membership to the Metis Medicine Societies Council of Elders was open to those who accepted the Sacred Laws of the Universe and sought to become a Sacred Human who touched self, life and others with Beauty.
The teachings and techniques you will read within these posts are held sacred over time by Elders from varying traditions. This knowledge is not linear, but rather circular in nature and aligned with the very structure of creation. It is knowledge that has been tested to ensure that it works regardless of person, place, culture or historical time. The Twisted Hairs Sweet Medicine SunDance Wheels (often written simply as SMSD) were collected and are presented because they hold keys that unlock the door to enlightenment. That may be as simple as “lightening up” our approach to life and as complex as resurrecting into formlessness!
The Children’s Twenty Count describes our world as we live in it, and the powers that influence us here in our attempt to establish interconnection, interreliability and interdependence with all things.
Thus far we have presented in each blog post, the numbers 1- 10, representing the powers that are the “so below“…the numbers that are related to this 3rd dimensional reality and “all that is green“…
As we discuss the upper numbers (11-20), we begin with the powers that are the “as above“…the numbers that are related to beyond this 3rd dimensional reality and “all that is blue“…
16 = Achlohtah-hey (Enlightened Masters)
16 represents the Achlohtah-hey (pronounced: Ak-a-loh-tah-hey). “Ach” means to see, “lotah” to know and “hey” to be awakened. The Achohtah-hey are our spiritual ancestors in the form of the enlightened masters who have walked on the Earth in an enlightened state as earthly masters and achieved full enlightenment while they were actually in physical form.
Enlightenment is remembering how to tune ourselves as an instrument into a harmonic resonance with the song of the Universe.
The Achlohtah-hey work with us through the spirit world. They stay in their luminous form and work with our psychic-kinetic and electromagnetic energies. They are the teachers of actualization and how to dance our sacred dream awake.
They teach us how to assume authority by taking our own power, and teach us that even for us everyday humans, enlightenment is indeed possible.
