Learning to Listen

listening

The key to developing a greater facility to communicate is to listen, to hear what other worlds are telling us and awaken them inside ourselves.  We possess a direct connection to the other four worlds of Grandmother Earth.  We contain minerals in our body; we are animal in that we are two-leggeds; we are the water and nutrients of the plant carried in our blood; and we come from pure spirit at birth and return to pure spirit at death.

People just haven’t learned how to listen.  We usually speak and listen from our brains, filtering everything from a chorus of our pretender voices and brain chatter.  Furthermore, language – words – as our primary means of communication limits our experiences and separates us, thus contributing to the chatter that prevents us from hearing.

We are like walking radios tuned into only one station.  We must get rid of the static and develop a wide band of receiving and broadcasting stations that are an intrinsic part of our natural self.  To do that we need to know more about the nature of each of the worlds, their essence or give-away, and their role in the matrix of life here on Grandmother Earth.

For the next few weeks, we will be looking at what it means to be a balanced human and how each of the five aspects within each world of Grandmother Earth assists us in attaining this balance so we can become sacred humans.  Stay tuned, like or follow or blog or Facebook page so you don’t miss any one aspect.

Warrior Wednesday – Balance and Control

waterfall_1280

In each direction of the Warrior Attributes wheel, there are two attributes.  The first attribute carries the feminine energy and the second carries the masculine energy.  In each pair, you must have the feminine aspect mastered before you can step into and embody the masculine aspect.

Starting in the South of the Wheel, the Warrior’s Attributes are balance and control.  Emotional balance goes back to the Balanced Choreography of giving with the emotions. You are in emotional balance when you are expressing your emotions clearly, like the free-running waters of a brook. If you hold or dam up your emotions, they throw you out of balance. To have emotional control means we are able to direct the emotions as we choose. If we don’t have balanced emotions, we will not have control and will react instead of being able to direct them as we choose. When we have emotional balance and control, we have an ease in breathing.

The Dance of the Twenty Count: 9 Design of Choreography & Energy

The Children’s Twenty Count describes our world as we live in it, and the powers that influence us here in our attempt to establish interconnection, interreliability and interdependence with all things.

As we begin to discuss the lower numbers, we begin with the powers that are the “so below“…the numbers that are related to this 3rd dimensional reality and “all that is green“…

9 = Design of Choreography & Energy

duck surfing

At nine, you have energy in motion as well as chaos. Now, the question becomes what are you going to do with energy that is in motion AND perhaps chaotic? How do you design and choreograph it?  Nine shows us  how to design and choreograph our  energy to be in alignment with the Great Spirit’s design and choreography of energy by learning how to ride the wave of chaos.

It teaches us how to have “maximum efficiency with minimum effort.” Simply put, how to get a lot done with the least amount of effort and energy on your part.

Within the chaotic wave, energy movement is always in absolute balance of male/female energies. If we come into alignment with sacred law in this way, we are, in a sense, cosmic surfers. After you catch the chaotic wave, the key is to stay on it until it ends! This requires us to align with change and movement, and to be relaxed while maintaining our focus.

Nine also has to do with setting priorities, making decisions and choices in your life. Priorities are the major ways in which you choreograph your life energy. They are born out of what gives you meaning in life and what your visions are. They become the major focus of your attention. In other words, what is important to you is what you give major amounts of energy to.

Decisions are the substance the priorities are made of. They swing the energy over to give credence to your priorities. Choices are the smaller energy dances you do around something. The secret to proper choreography of energy is first of all make sure that the thing you give most of your energy to is what you want in life and gives your life meaning.

Next, make sure the decisions you make support that priority, and the smaller choices support the decisions. Then just relax and let life happen. If you find that you are constantly making decisions or choices which do not support your priority, then you must go back and re-evaluate what you claim as a priority.

For example, if you have as a priority to earn your black belt in martial arts, you can’t sit in front of the tv when it’s time to work out. You must make the decision to commit yourself to working out. Once you’re at the dojo, you must make the little choices to pay attention in class and not watch the clock. You have to choose to have an attitude that you will try to do everything I am asked.

If your decisions and choices are in alignment every step of the way, you will indeed get your belt and will succeed in making your #1 priority your manifested reality.

An Exercise for Gaining Balanced Choreography of Energy

You’ve read our past posts on what is Balanced Choreography of Energy and what is Imbalanced Choreography. Most of us experience times of imbalance, lost or even harmful energy. What can we do about it?

Happy woman image

The following exercise is meant to help you identify when you’re out of balance with your choreography of energy, and what you can do to regain balance.

  1. Choose a duration of time. whether it be a day or a week. Decide to step into an objective observer/witness place with yourself. In other words, you are going to step back or away from yourself to observe without judgment or criticism how you balance or don’t balance energy improper alignment.
  1. Observe! It’s often easier to observe others than ourselves. If you observe something in others, make sure you relate it to yourself, or to a time when you did the same.
  1. Write what you observe in a journal. In the process, ask yourself the following questions:

Am I staying in the moment with the expression of my emotions and giving with them? Or am I creating an imbalance? If there is an imbalance, identify the direction. For example, am I holding with my emotions in the West or receiving with my emotions in the North? State specifically how you are out of balance with your emotions. Click to review imbalances with emotions.

Am I allowing energy to move through my body? Do I have plenty of energy to move through my day? Or am I draining energy through improper choreography? If I am out of balance with my physical body, in what direction? And I giving with my body in the South, or determining with it in the East? State specifically how your body is out of balance. Click to review imbalances with the physical body.

Do I see a minimum of three different viewing points or options when receiving input in my mind? Or do I have tunnel and see only one way to do something? If so, identify the direction and aspect of its imbalance. Click to review imbalances with the mind.

Am I passionate about my life? Do I have hope? Or do I lack spirit and feel hopeless and helpless? If so, name the direction and aspect of its imbalance. Click to review imbalances with spirit.

Am I openhearted? Or do I feel shutdown and lifeless? Click to review imbalances with sexual life force energy.

  1. Keep an inventory. Look for patterns that occur time and time again. For each pattern you discover, make an affirmation about what you are going to do differently to bring yourself and your energy into balance in that area.

South Examples of Imbalanced Choreography of Energy

In the Sweet Medicine SunDance path, the Balanced Choreography of Energy is a wheel and movement around the circle of directions that help remind us what we naturally need to do be in balance and harmony with all aspects of ourselves.

We’ve shared past posts about what it means to be in balance each of the five directions around a wheel.

If we could master this balanced choreography: giving with the emotions, holding with the physical body, receiving with the mind, determining with spirit and catalyzing with open, heart-to-heart sexual communication, we would be walking around this planet in balance and harmony with all things.

But as we all know, imbalance often occurs. Fatigue and pain are created when these directions and energetic expressions are interchanged.

Let’s look at some common examples of imbalance.

IMG_0017.JPG

Emotional imbalance may take the following forms…

If you hold with your emotions, you are always at the effect of your emotions. Your emotions begin to wall or dam up, so that when someone speaks to you in the “wrong way” you take it personally, whether they meant it or not. This imbalance is caused by not giving with the emotions.

A person who is receiving with the emotions will have a tendency to create imbalances such as obesity, addictions around food and water, alcoholism, cardiovascular problems, etc. Another example of receiving with the emotions is being an energy vampire. You pull energy from others to yourself, demanding the other “make it right” or “better.”

What if you are determining with your emotions? Here you become the brat or tyrant. You demand attention to your emotionalism…you “get even.” You may even make decisions and set priorities out of your emotional reactions as opposed to taking action as pure motion, based on your spiritual determination.

If you catalyze with your emotions, you can develop a fanatical personality. This energy and balance can also create suicidal tendencies. When the emotions are doing anything but giving, pain and fatigue are the result, eventually causing disease and illness in the body. This is true all the way around the wheel with any imbalance of choreography.

Can you identify times when you are in imbalanced choreography with your emotions?

Balanced Choreography of Energy Wheel Recap

Balanced Choreography of Energy: Determining with Spirit

The Balanced Choreography of Energy wheel describes the most balanced way to use energy. Why do we as humans want to be balanced? Think about the ways we experience stress, pain, fatigue, anxiety, worry in our bodies, our minds, our emotions and within our spirit on a daily basis. We know when we don’t flow, and we inherently know when there is something off. We are walking out of balance and, therefore, can’t determine how to best choreograph the dance that is our life.

In the Sweet Medicine SunDance path, the Balanced Choreography of Energy is a wheel and movement around the circle of directions that help remind us what we naturally need to do to be in balance and harmony with all aspects of ourselves.

If we could master this balanced choreography of giving with the emotions, holding and transforming with the physical body, receiving with the mind, determining with spirit and open, heart-to-heart sexual communication, we would be walking around this planet in balance and harmony with all things.

In the East, we determined with the Spirit through passion and lust. The words “passion” and “lust” usually create controversy. Think of it this way … you have not had an apple in a long time, and you may never have an apple again. As you eat this apple, you totally focus your attention on it. With all of your senses, you taste the juice of it, you are aware of the texture and smell of it. You savor every morsel of this last apple.

This is eating an apple with passion and lust. Therefore, with everything we do, whether it is cleaning the floor, writing a paper, or making love, we should do it with the spirit of passion and lust as if it were the last moment of life. Savor each moment by determining with your intent and focus from your spirit.

In the North, we receive with the mind through clarity and caring. Our mind is an open cup, ready to receive from many viewing points and perspectives. When we are open to only one viewing point, we develop tunnel vision.

The more ideas and concepts we can receive with our minds, the greater will be our capacity to see many different perspectives and, therefore, gain more clarity. How open is your mind right now?

Balanced Choreography of Energy: Holding with the Body

In the West, we hold with the physical body with intimacy. This does not, however, mean to hold as in hold on tight. It is holding in the sense of transforming energy for stability, endurance and use.

Think of it as an electrical cord. The body is the structure through which electrical energy moves like a conduit, and provides the transformed energy to turn on the fan, work a toaster, or move the body parts.

Therefore, when we hold and transform with our physical bodies, we are in the energetic flow.

In the South, we give with our emotions. Giving with the emotions means “energy in emotion.”

Emotions are meant to be expressed and to flow freely. In other words, if we are angry, we give our anger. If we are happy, we give happiness. When we are sad, we cry and give with sadness. Our emotions are a part of our beauty that we must give away.

As long as we are giving our emotions with tenderness, our emotions are true, clear and clean expressions of what is happening within us. Therefore, we are in balance.

Achieving that Delicate Balance

Don’t make Jack a dull boy!

Let’s take a little quiz!

All work and no play makes Jack:

  1. a wealthy boy
  2. a disciplined boy
  3. sleep really well at night
  4. a dull boy

All play and no work makes Jack:

  1. a happy boy
  2. a tired boy
  3. a mere toy
  4. a shallow, self-centered, perpetual adolescent

According to the often-repeated proverb, the answers are “a dull boy” and “a mere toy” respectively. Who wants to tempt that fate?

Instead, come to the Light Warrior Clan meeting on Sept. 23 (RSVP by Thursday 9/13!) and learn the from the perspective of the Sweet Medicine SunDance Path a key wheel that we can always use to rebalance our lives. The Balanced Choreography Wheel gets us in touch with a way of using our emotions, body, mind, Spirit and Soul to get the train back on the track.
