Finding Our Balance with the Food Chain

meat and vegies

We need the balance of male and female energy that comes from eating both plants and animals.  This is about alchemy, knowing your way of balance.

Many people refuse to eat meat because they see that as killing life.  What they fail to realize is that eating plants is also killing.  Plants are givers, and animals receive plant as food.  When you eat meat, the animal is helping you receive the plant, for an animal is a walking plant, in a sense.  Remember, death gives life.  The animal’s sacrifice empowers us, nurtures us, heals us, and teaches us how to receive.  We determine how that give-away is honored and respected by the way we receive it.  To deny that gift is to deny one of the important roles they play in the web of life of this planet.

On the other hand, there are those who refuse to eat meat not because they see it as intrinsically wrong, but because they are offended by the cruel and inhumane way animals are slaughtered and processed today.  We now live in a world where we are dependent on our food coming from and through the process of mass production.  Through your prayer and honoring of the food that comes to your table, you can determine what happens to its energy.  Offer thanks for its give-away, and say a sincere prayer to that animal or plant for the way in which it had to die for you.  This heart connection with the spirit of the plant or the animal can reinstate the natural balance and alignment with Sacred Law.  This is an example of energy transformation that we determine through our intent and our actions.

At the same time, you can actively lobby for reform in the food production industry and spend your consumer dollars in stores that stock products that are more in alignment with these principles.

Animals as Teachers

animal-wolves

Animals are powerful teachers and have much to offer us because they possess natural balance, harmony, and alignment.  They do not have doubt, blame, shame, insecurity, and all the other blocks we experience.  A wolf does not worry because it is not an eagle.  A fox does not experience jealousy because another fox is bigger and has longer, shinier fur.  They don’t yearn to be something else.  The animal simply knows what it is and instinctively knows its purpose.  Animals teach us to accept ourselves for who we are because they are so in alignment with who they are.

One way to align with and communicate with the animal world is to go to your local zoo.  Spend time with an animal that you are attracted to, particularly one of your own totem animals, for they are the key to your own unique naturalness.  Do not stare into their eyes, as that is a signal of aggression or danger; rather, gaze at them indirectly or with soft focus.  Send your energy and your communication softly, with respect and honor.  Ask that animal to receive the energy and send its energy back.  They communicate in images, so see what you get.  Observe the animal in its catness, its deerness, its rabbitness, its crowness, its wolfness.  What makes it what it is?  If the opportunity presents itself, imitate the body movements, mannerisms, and sounds of the animal, just as you did with the trees.  What does it feel like, look like, act like in your own body to be a jaguar, a bear, an eagle?

Over time, you will want to get to know your own personal totem animals.  We encourage you to explore this arena by reading Sun Bear’s book The Medicine Wheel (New York: Prentice Hall, 1986).  His sacred vision, his Earth wisdom, and the love of Grandmother Earth that Sun Bear shared during his life were instrumental in bringing back the sacred Medicine Wheels and reawakening people’s connection with the Earth Mother.

In their natural habitats, animals maintain harmony and balance.  They exhibit alpha/beta behavior and assert their territorial imperative to maintain that balance.  That same behavior is exhibited by humans as well, since we are still two-legged animals, but we don’t create balance and harmony with our alpha/beta behavior.  More often or not, we dominate and try to take control, thus upsetting the balance in the environment.  When we enter the picture, we destroy the whole balance and suffer immeasurably for it.

Read how Reintroducing Wolves into Yellowstone National Park changed the Ecosystem as an example of this harmony and balance.

Animal World: Four-leggeds

weimaraner-1801724_1280

In the North, we receive with the mind through clarity and caring. Our mind is an open cup, ready to receive from many viewing points and perspectives. When we are open only to one viewing point, we can get tunnel vision. The more ideas and concepts we can receive with our minds, the greater will be our capacity to see many different perspectives and therefore, gain more clarity.

The four-leggeds, the runners who are double receivers sit in the north of the Animal World wheel.  They are in perfect balance within themselves and with everything around them.  They know when the weather is going to change or a storm is brewing or a natural catastrophe is about to happen.  They receive energy, very often absorbing human emotions.  If your pets are in the area where you are doing body work, healing work, crystal work, medicine work, or magickal ceremony, they will soak up every bit of negative energy.  Your animals will literally die for you.

Fact about dogs: They possess up to 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses, compared to about six million in us. And the part of a dog’s brain that is devoted to analyzing smells is, proportionally speaking, 40 times greater than ours.  That’s a lot more receiving than humans are even capable of.

How the Worlds Teach Humans to be Balanced

balance rocks near stream

Last week, we learned that we possess a direct connection to the other four worlds of Grandmother Earth.  We contain minerals in our body; we are animal in that we are two-leggeds; we are the water and nutrients of the plant carried in our blood; and we come from pure spirit at birth and return to pure spirit at death.

Each world teaches us how to be balanced humans, or how to balance our choreography, which consists of all the choices, decisions, and priorities we make and create in our life.  The mineral world teaches us how to hold and transform; the plant world exemplifies how to give; how to receive is knowledge from the animal world; the human world, in alignment with Great Spirit, are the determiners of Grandmother; and the Spirit World shows us how to catalyze our life.

These five actions also correspond to an aspect within us.  The mineral world and its ability to hold and transform corresponds to our physical body; the plant world to our emotions; the animal world to our mental aspect; human world to our spirit; and the spirit world to our sexual aspect.

Over the next few weeks, we will explore each of these five worlds and human aspects to explore how the Worlds of Grandmother earth teach us, if we are open to it.

The Horse Race for Humanity

horse-race

Is the tale of the Horse Race just another forecast of doom and gloom?  What does it all have to do with us, really?  With evolutionary cycles quickening and energies polarizing, we are at a crossroads of choice – light vs. dark, good vs. evil, wealth vs. poverty, freedom vs. tyranny, joy and fulfillment vs. depression and despair, vibrant health and emotional balance vs. stress and sickness.  Evolution and change are catapulting us at warp speed into new paradigms, calling us to stand accountable for who and what we are in the world.

We yearn for the light, constantly looking for ways to make our dreams of harmony, balance, and beauty a reality.  We are inspired by our vision of a fuller life. Unfortunately, many of us are overcome by the enormity of the task and throw up our hands in frustration.  Many of us just sit on the fence, waiting to see what will happen or waiting for someone else to do it for us.

Life develops what it demands, and life is demanding that we go beyond our self-focus to soul consciousness, to step into action as warriors in every aspect of our lives to serve humanity and the planet.  If we do not choose to get off the fence on our own, events will knock us off.

What will it take?  Step out of the weaknesses of complacency, naivete, and the lack of reality awareness.  Break away from the prisoner bonds of convenience and comfort that come at a tremendous cost to our planet and quality of life.  Quit being satisfied with information and entertainment.

Seek wisdom and knowledge that only come from direct experience, testing, challenge, and mastery.  Practice your faith and prayers, for they are the intrinsic expressions of yearning for connection and alignment with spirit and the light within us.  Live our lives, moment to moment, fostering love and harmony, focusing on the light and all that is good.

Adopt a warrior’s stance against the dark.  Only then can we face the enemy – both the enemy within as well as the enemy outside ourselves.  Nothing in life overcomes what it runs away from.

Collective Dream of Grandmother Earth

earth-earth-at-night-night-lights-41949

In the Center of the Dream Type wheel is the Collective Dream of Grandmother Earth. It is the memory of dreaming. This is the dream of all humans walking as balanced fives—that is, in total alignment, balance, and harmony with the Self, the five Worlds of Grandmother Earth and the 20 Powers.

7 Arrows – Rainbow Arrow of Gaining Wisdom, Alignment, Balance & Harmonic Resonance

zen-2040340_1280

If you remember, the 4th dark arrow is Comparisons, the place where our group identity becomes our support system that verifies and validates our judgments and separation.  It feels like we  judge and separate from “them”, those who do not believe in the same way, or have the same values, and are not like us.  But truly, this dark arrow is picked up because we judge and separate from our self, then others and life.

When we pick up the 4th light arrow, we say YES to loving our self for the sheer pleasure of doing so.  Our hearts open and we connect to self, life, others, and Spirit.  The gift from the Universe is the 4th Rainbow Arrow where we gain wisdom, alignment, balance and harmonic resonance through the alignment with all forms of all things.  Logic, knowledge and wisdom can only be received by a flexible, open free-thinking mind whose intent is to be in balance and harmony with all the Worlds of Grandmother Earth.

7 Arrows – Rainbow Arrows

arrows-928865_1280

Life is a CHOICE.  Choosing the Light Arrows breaks the Dark Arrows.  Persist in this practice and one day you will discover that the Universe has placed the Rainbow Arrows in your quiver in the place of the Dark Arrows as a gift from the Universe.  A perfect balance of the female and male energies in the light brings to us the Rainbow Arrows of illumination and enlightenment; introspection and intuition; trust, innocence and perfection; balanced alignment with wisdom; open heart to heart communication; impeccability as one’s self-worth and the actualization of our Sacred Dream.

Red Lodge Longhouse

eagle_1280

You may have heard about the Arizona Red Lodge Longhouse, but wondered what is that?!?

Just by hearing the name, you certainly would not know what this Longhouse is all about.  One of the challenges with describing this yearlong program is that in modern day syntax, there is indeed NOTHING like it.  An elevator, quick hit description doesn’t do this program justice either.

Historically, a longhouse was held during the winter months when everything slowed down and the entire community would come together to share, study and expand through sacred knowledge.  In today’s world, we don’t have the winter months to shut down our life and luxuriate in this approach to learning and seeking.

Our Red Lodge Longhouse seeks to keep the traditional ways of gathering  like-minded folks, but tailors the timing of these gatherings to today’s pace.  That being said, we gather 7 times over the course of a year, 6 weekends at our center and 1 week of ceremony out in nature.

Why would I want to invest this kind of time to this program?  What do we do over this course of a year?  At this time of fast paced life, seemingly unlimited technology, and so many options of things to do, we offer a time-tested approach to reconnecting to all of life, gaining tools to help us sort out our past issues, and determine our way to the life we choose now to have.

Join others that desire to create their life with a balanced approach, focusing on spiritual connection, personal growth and abundance.  You will gain tools for change, new friends, and an understanding of natural worlds.

As it seems easier to disconnect, this longhouse is all about connection.

Connect to your potential.  Join us!

Warrior Wednesday – Balance and Control

waterfall_1280

In each direction of the Warrior Attributes wheel, there are two attributes.  The first attribute carries the feminine energy and the second carries the masculine energy.  In each pair, you must have the feminine aspect mastered before you can step into and embody the masculine aspect.

Starting in the South of the Wheel, the Warrior’s Attributes are balance and control.  Emotional balance goes back to the Balanced Choreography of giving with the emotions. You are in emotional balance when you are expressing your emotions clearly, like the free-running waters of a brook. If you hold or dam up your emotions, they throw you out of balance. To have emotional control means we are able to direct the emotions as we choose. If we don’t have balanced emotions, we will not have control and will react instead of being able to direct them as we choose. When we have emotional balance and control, we have an ease in breathing.
