Sacred Plants

Grandmother Earth’s first children are the Sacred Plants and the Sacred Waters. They both sit in the South of the Great Medicine Wheel. The Plants sing the Songs of Trust and Innocence, the Songs of the Giveaway.  The Waters sing the Songs of Carrying the Myths, of the Joy of having Pleasure within our Emotions in everything we do.

Unconditional giving is the essence of all plants.  A rose continues to bloom whether we appreciate it or not.  Plants give nourishment, shelter, food, beauty, inspiration, and, they are our primary source of oxygen.  Without plants, we could not live.

Sitting in the south of the Plant World Wheel, Grasses and Grains are known by the earth peoples as the “hair of Grandmother Earth”.  We recognize their fluidity as the wind blows them to and fro.

Herbs and Shrubs hold great healing powers.  You can learn to tune into their song and know exactly what medicine they hold.  Shrubs hold the soil in place.

Fruits and Flowers sit in the north of the Plant World, and are the receivers of this wheel.  This is most graphically illustrated by flowers.  They are like a barometer, for they will receive the energy of the environment and will thrive or wilt depending on what they receive.

Trees, or the Standing Tree Nations, are the prime givers who sit in the east if the Plant World wheel.  Their luminosity or aura is very similar to that of a human.  Did you also know that trees determine the weather?

In the center of the wheel, the place of catalyzation, are the Teacher Plants for their gift is the transformation of consciousness.  When done within proper ceremony, this transformation catalyzes our spiritual awareness, knowledge and growth.
