Balanced Choreography of Energy: Determining with Spirit

The Balanced Choreography of Energy wheel describes the most balanced way to use energy. Why do we as humans want to be balanced? Think about the ways we experience stress, pain, fatigue, anxiety, worry in our bodies, our minds, our emotions and within our spirit on a daily basis. We know when we don’t flow, and we inherently know when there is something off. We are walking out of balance and, therefore, can’t determine how to best choreograph the dance that is our life.

In the Sweet Medicine SunDance path, the Balanced Choreography of Energy is a wheel and movement around the circle of directions that help remind us what we naturally need to do to be in balance and harmony with all aspects of ourselves.

If we could master this balanced choreography of giving with the emotions, holding and transforming with the physical body, receiving with the mind, determining with spirit and open, heart-to-heart sexual communication, we would be walking around this planet in balance and harmony with all things.

In the East, we determined with the Spirit through passion and lust. The words “passion” and “lust” usually create controversy. Think of it this way … you have not had an apple in a long time, and you may never have an apple again. As you eat this apple, you totally focus your attention on it. With all of your senses, you taste the juice of it, you are aware of the texture and smell of it. You savor every morsel of this last apple.

This is eating an apple with passion and lust. Therefore, with everything we do, whether it is cleaning the floor, writing a paper, or making love, we should do it with the spirit of passion and lust as if it were the last moment of life. Savor each moment by determining with your intent and focus from your spirit.

Balanced Choreography of Energy: Receiving with the Mind

In the North, we receive with the mind through clarity and caring. Our mind is an open cup, ready to receive from many viewing points and perspectives. When we are open to only one viewing point, we develop tunnel vision.

The more ideas and concepts we can receive with our minds, the greater will be our capacity to see many different perspectives and, therefore, gain more clarity. How open is your mind right now?

Balanced Choreography of Energy: Holding with the Body

In the West, we hold with the physical body with intimacy. This does not, however, mean to hold as in hold on tight. It is holding in the sense of transforming energy for stability, endurance and use.

Think of it as an electrical cord. The body is the structure through which electrical energy moves like a conduit, and provides the transformed energy to turn on the fan, work a toaster, or move the body parts.

Therefore, when we hold and transform with our physical bodies, we are in the energetic flow.

In the South, we give with our emotions. Giving with the emotions means “energy in emotion.”

Emotions are meant to be expressed and to flow freely. In other words, if we are angry, we give our anger. If we are happy, we give happiness. When we are sad, we cry and give with sadness. Our emotions are a part of our beauty that we must give away.

As long as we are giving our emotions with tenderness, our emotions are true, clear and clean expressions of what is happening within us. Therefore, we are in balance.

“When we have donned our rainbow skin, we will dance with fluidity in our emotions, stability in our physical body, flexibility in our mind, expansion in our spirit, and open heart-to-heart communication in our sexuality. We will know what it is to truly be human.”  – Harley SwiftDeer Reagan

Are You Going With The Flow?

In the Sweet Medicine SunDance Path, we often speak of “design and choreography of energy” … in other words how we design, direct and allow our energy to flow to help manifest our dreams and experience this dream of life.

Check out this video demonstrating a relaxed, focused oneness with the flow of energy. How well can we each take a focused, yet highly fluid and relaxed approach to simply flow without stress and be one with our own energy, and what we are manifesting right now? How well are you flowing today?

Flicker Animal Totem: The Natural Drummers

Happy birthday to the Flicker! For those not familiar with SunBear’s Earth Astrology, those born from June 21 to July 22 have the flicker (related to the woodpecker) as their birth animal totem.

We can learn so much about our natural selves from the animal world, including how to be more efficient and balanced with our every day energy.

flicker image
Did you know? The Northern Flicker is one of the few North American woodpeckers that is strongly migratory. Flickers in the northern parts of their range move south for the winter, although a few will stay rather far north. What the flicker (as opposed to a woodpecker) feeds from the ground and like the woodpecker is known for its intense “drumming” on natural and metal objects as a form of communication and territorial defense. They make their communication loud and heard … at times up to a half mile away!

What do you think? Where can you add a little flicker medicine to your life?

The Center Element: Void

In the Sweet Medicine SunDance Path, the sacred four elements are a part of Grandmother Earth and are a natural component of our world and ourselves. The elements can be regarded from the perspective of a “medicine wheel”. That is to say a circle of viewing of each of the four directions: South, West, North, East and the Center.

When we view the elements from each of these directions, we can better understand through not just our mind but our physical bodies how each of the elements feel and how these elements combine with other energies and powers of the four directions.

void

In the Center, the element is the void (the black hole or womb).

The void works with all of the four elements. In fact it is from the void (the apparent nothing, the source) that all things take on substance within spirit. This is the Chuluaqui Quodoushka energy which was mentioned in the SunDance creation story.

The void works with the energy of open, heart-to-heart communication. It is the catalyst energy that makes and keeps the other elements in a state of balance or imbalance depending on how it is used.
